This will be a brief letter about my reflections on the past week regarding judgment, and how it influences awareness and your desires.
Judgment is a fascinating topic to explore, one that is a bit counterintuitive but relatively easy to comprehend.
I hope you find something valuable in this week’s letter.
Enjoy :)
What is judgment?
Well, how most people see it, it’s your noticing of others’ lacks and then forming an opinion about it. It seems like when you judge other people, you are expressing your opinion on their shortcomings and problems.
— He’s rude, he’s ugly, he’s unloving, she’s late again, she’s going out too much, did you see what she did to her hair???
In the eyes of judgment, it always seems like we, the judges, are right and they are the ones who are wrong or weird. But have you ever noticed that what you judge always differs from your notion of yourself?
You might judge yourself accidentally, which is called hypocrisy. However, you probably never intend to judge yourself when judging others.
The reality of judgment is a bit more nuanced when you look closely at what’s happening.
Judgment is a Reflection
Judgment, whether for yourself or others, is entirely a reflection. A reflection of your inner state, a reflection of your past, your burdens, and everything that’s buried in your subconscious. Your past defines you because you have let it define you. You’ve identified and interpreted your way through life, and it’s all led you here.
You have put labels on yourself your whole life, which then bred and still breed destructive beliefs. These beliefs govern your life subconsciously, making it difficult for you to see clearly.
Let me get into this in more detail.
Over the past few weeks, I have become more and more aware of my judgment towards others. What I have found is that it is indeed always a reflection. When I judge someone else it is coming from the lack I have within. I am judging myself, always.
The tricky thing is that this judging is entirely subconscious until you become aware of that fact and start to understand. The reflection of judgment is much harder to see than the appearance.
As for myself, it’s interesting how people who are freer, more developed, and thus more careless get more judgments from me. They shine a light on my lack of authenticity just by being. They show me my labels and beliefs about myself, for me to work through them. Most times it’s easy to spot my lack now, but sometimes it’s very tricky and hidden inside various layers of beliefs, labels, and judgments.
How wonderful when you start to notice that people are teachers, guiding you to your lacks. How wonderful when you start to notice that people say stuff that is mostly about themselves, and that you have a chance to do inner work if you take the words personally.
If I were perfectly authentic and free, I wouldn’t judge others who are free too. I would be happy for them and loving towards the ones who may have a long way to go.
Authenticity is a reflection of love.
The way back to yourself is the way from judgment to love.
Allowing Yourself to Be Judged
If you become aware of your judgments, you’ll start to see that when you think people are judging you, they often aren’t. It’s your lack looking for external clues to match your beliefs about yourself.
Now this is very interesting.
If you are judging people from your lack, beliefs, and judgements about yourself, isn’t everybody else doing the same? If we take this a little further, what judgments have something to do with you? I think you already know the answer ;)
Only your own judgments actually have something to do with you. So you can be liberated and live your truth right now, today, because the only one truly judging you is you.
So this is the main point I want to get at.
Allow yourself to be judged and be aware that other people’s judgements of you are only a reflection of them. So when you get triggered by their judging, it’s only a reflection of what you believe about yourself.
I’ll give you a simple example. A stranger says your shirt isn’t cool. If you are authentic, free, and confident, you’ll ignore the person as you know they talk from their lack, and that the shirt is cool to you, which is enough. But if this triggers you, you are secretly judging yourself for this shirt, and until you become aware of it, you’ll never get over that judgment and live freely in whatever shirt you find cool.
When you are aware of this, you can switch your judgment to love in the face of judgment and work on the lack in your own time, without it being a negative experience to others. That’s something I now see and need to work on.
It’s all a wonderful mirror for us to see the lack within. See what needs to be worked on and healed.
Back to Love
This all comes back to love.
Have compassion for yourself and your beliefs about yourself. At the end of the day, this is your old nervous system protecting you from harm.
The reason why we have to have compassion for our judgments and beliefs is that if we don’t, they keep coming up to the surface. If we resist our judgments and hide them, they become more prominent in every way. What you resist persists.
This is also true for distraction. If you avoid the judgments with distraction, they become more visible and persistent.
But at the end of the day, it’s our lack helping us to see what needs to be worked on. Hurt comes up to the surface and demands attention. Let’s give it the attention it needs.
It helps me to see the judgments and fears as my old self. My little boy self trying to protect me from pain and suffering.
At a moment of judgment, I’ll say to my little self…
“I see what you’re trying to protect me from. I understand that you just want to make me feel less pain. I love you, but I don’t need your protection as I’m already perfect in Truth. Thank you for showing me what needs to be worked on and understood. I’m grateful for your love and guidance, and I will look at this in depth at a later time.”
I think once we do that, we can start integrating this truth much more efficiently into our lives and start handling things with a whole new perspective.
The power is yours. To see and understand this is one of the first steps towards being truly authentic and free in your skin.
One of the hardest things to do is realize that you are perfect as you already are and that you don’t have to change. This process is crucial to get over those beliefs holding you back.
Let’s shine our awareness onto this and stop the cycle.
You got this, my friend.
Hey, I hope you got something of value from this letter. I’ve started to be more consistent in my writing so expect these weekly or so. Sundays will hopefully be the day I send out my finished letters, so look out for that.
Have a great rest of your week, and remember to have compassion for yourself.
You got this.
